So this was announced before E3, but I just found out that the Sequel to EDF 2017, named EDF: Insect Armageddon, is in production! I just looked into it and it looks amazing. The graphics have been greatly improved, there will be over 300 weapons (double what the first EDF had), four classes of armor that change the type of soldier you are, and even more types of giant monstrous bugs! Set in Detroit sometime after the events of the first game, this over-the-shoulder shooter has an all new story, as well as several new game modes. The main story is for 1-3 players via splitscreen or online, and will feature mission selections just like the first game. Morevoer, there’s a new 6-player online survival mode where you and your friends face endless waves of the monstrous beasts (I think something’s going to replace my love for COD’s Nazi Zombies). The controls of the battle mechs have also been greatly improved (that’s one of the things which I think the first one needed to fix the most), so taking out bugs and alien robots in a helicopter will prove to be much easier. That’s all just a taste of what the new game has to offer.
Did I mention this game is supposed to come out on July 5th, less than a month away?!? Even better, it’s available for both 360 and PS3 this time around. Apparently there are two unique preorders for this game: Gamestop will give you 15 unique weapons to be used by the Battle Armor (the slow but strong class), while ordering from Bestbuy gets you 15 unique weapons for the Jet Armor (the faster class that has a jetpack). Both preorders include a few weapons for the other two classes as well.
The first EDF was honestly my favorite game on the 360, and I can’t wait for this one. Just like EDF 2017, Insect Armageddon will probably slide under the radar for many people and not get all the glory it deserves. It’s even supposed to have a base price of $40 because they know that it won’t be a blockbuster hit (for me, that just makes it even better). But trust me, this game seems like it will be truly worth it. The introduction of co-op, Armor classes, new enemies, new environments, a new story, and 150 ADDITIONAL weapons makes this a game that should NOT be missed.
